Help & setup

Everything you need to get a domain receiving and sending mail. Stuck anywhere? Email hello@mailhow.com — a human answers.

Getting started

  1. Create your mailbox. Use your invite link, pick your address and a password (10+ characters — it also works for IMAP).
  2. Connect a domain. Open Domains in the app, type a domain you own, and MailHow prepares everything on its side — including DKIM signing keys — instantly.
  3. Create the DNS records. The domain page lists six required records. Add them at whatever registrar hosts the domain’s DNS, then click Verify records.
  4. Add addresses. Under Addresses, create hello@, support@ — anything — on any verified domain. All of it lands in your one inbox, and every address is available in the compose from-picker.

The six DNS records, explained

RecordWhat it does
MXTells the world to deliver your domain’s mail to MailHow.
TXT (SPF)Authorizes MailHow’s server to send mail for your domain.
TXT ×2 (DKIM)Publish the public halves of your domain’s signing keys, so receivers can verify your mail wasn’t forged. MailHow signs with both a modern (ed25519) and a classic (RSA) key.
TXT (DMARC)Tells receivers to reject mail that fails SPF/DKIM — protects your domain from spoofing and improves inbox placement.

DNS changes usually propagate in minutes, but some registrars take up to an hour. “Verify records” re-checks live DNS each time you click it.

Apple Mail, Outlook, and other IMAP clients

Any standard mail client works. Use these settings:

IMAP (incoming)mail.mailhow.com · port 993 · SSL
SMTP (outgoing)mail.mailhow.com · port 465 · SSL
Usernameyour full MailHow address
Passwordyour MailHow password

Most clients auto-discover these settings from just your address, thanks to the optional autoconfig DNS records shown on each domain’s page.

Frequently asked

How much can I store?Beta mailboxes include 2 GB. When you approach it, senders receive a temporary “try again later” rather than losing mail outright — but keep headroom.

Are there sending limits? Yes — 100 messages per hour per mailbox during the beta. MailHow is for correspondence, not newsletters or bulk sending.

Can I leave? Any time. Export your mail over IMAP (drag folders in Apple Mail, or use any IMAP backup tool), point your MX records elsewhere, and email us to delete the account. Your domains were always yours.

Why did my message go to spam at the recipient? Check the domain page shows all records verified. New domains with no sending history warm up over days — consistent, wanted mail fixes this quickly.
